Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, asserted the company’s leadership in the AI space during an event in Mumbai. Nadella expressed confidence in Microsoft’s AI model, asserting its superiority even over newer iterations like GPT-4.
Despite acknowledging potential future competition, Nadella emphasized Microsoft’s current position as the leading Large Language Model (LLM) provider.
In a keynote address, Nadella urged Indian businesses to embrace AI to enhance productivity and refine products, emphasizing the need for the country to focus on AI development. He highlighted India’s growing significance as a talent hub for AI developers on GitHub, positioning it as the second-largest talent base globally.
Puneet Chandok, Microsoft’s leader for India and South Asia, emphasized India’s credibility in the AI space, stating that the nation is not just incredible but also credible. Nadella called for a consensus to drive socio-economic progress through AI adoption, noting that India’s unique use cases are paving their own path.
Microsoft announced plans to provide AI skilling opportunities for 2 million Indians in smaller cities and towns by the next year. Nadella expressed optimism about the convergence of technology and socio-economic progress in India, stating that the country is moving forward without a gap between local and global advancements.

Highlighting a unique AI initiative, Nadella mentioned Karya, an “ethical data company” creating datasets in various Indian languages to train AI models. Karya not only contributes to AI advancements but also provides job opportunities and education in rural areas, showcasing the broader societal impact of AI initiatives in India.
