Uniswap, the world’s largest decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, has taken a significant step in expanding its reach by launching a closed beta version of its Android mobile app. This development, announced on October 12 by the app’s development team, is expected to open up Uniswap’s services to a wider range of users once the testing phase is successfully completed. Previously, Uniswap was primarily accessible through web-based platforms and its iOS mobile app, which was introduced in April.
Uniswap has garnered a reputation as a leading player in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, processing over $1.7 trillion worth of cryptocurrency trades since its inception, according to DefiLlama. With this mobile app expansion, Uniswap aims to provide greater convenience and accessibility for users seeking to engage in decentralized exchanges on their Android devices.
One of the noteworthy features of the new Android beta app is its ability to seamlessly handle coins on different blockchain networks without requiring users to manually switch networks. The app can automatically detect which network a particular coin operates on and adjust accordingly. Currently, it supports various networks, including Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and BNB Chain, with plans to enhance compatibility with additional chains in the future.

The Uniswap mobile app also incorporates measures to enhance security and user experience. It routes Ethereum transactions through a private pool, which can help protect against issues like front-running and sandwich attacks. Users have the option to enable or disable this feature based on their preferences. Additionally, the app is designed to automatically detect transfer fees associated with different coins and displays this information in the interface, providing users with transparency regarding transaction costs.
To introduce the new app, Uniswap has initiated an email waitlist signup process, which will be utilized to roll out copies of the app to early adopters. Furthermore, the team plans to release the app’s open-source code in the near future as part of a security audit conducted with Trail of Bits.
Uniswap’s move into the Android market is part of a broader trend among decentralized exchanges to expand their reach and provide users with more options for accessing their services. In 2021, 1inch, another prominent decentralized exchange, introduced a mobile wallet for iOS, and subsequently, an Android version was made available in October. This expansion highlights the growing demand for DeFi services and the importance of mobile accessibility in the cryptocurrency space.
