The infamous cryptocurrency wallet-draining service, Inferno Drainer, which rose to prominence in early 2023, has announced its permanent closure following allegations that it helped phishing criminals steal around $70 million in cryptocurrencies over the course of the year.
This message was sent by the Inferno Drainer team via a Telegram thread on November 26th, stating that it was time to move on. The infrastructure and files needed for the wallet-draining process will remain in place even though the service is shutting down, making it easy for customers to switch to other services.
The Inferno Drainer team thanked their user community and praised their clients’ collaborative adventure. Even if nothing endures forever, they made it clear that they wanted to be seen as the best drainer ever, having made a substantial financial contribution to their users’ endeavors.

With the discontinuation of the well-liked Monkey Drainer tool earlier in the year, Inferno Drainer gained notoriety. Like its predecessors, Inferno offered software that emptied cryptocurrency wallets and took a 20% portion of the money that customers pilfered. Scam Sniffer, a Web3 anti-scam platform, has analytics showing that since February, Inferno Drainer has stolen around $70 million from over 100,000 victims. The Inferno Drainer crew, however, asserted that the true theft amount was more than $80 million.
By removing the affiliate Telegram account “mr_inferno_drainer,” which was used to coordinate its operations, the team made a firm decision to stop providing its services. Users were cautioned not to believe any future drainers claiming to be associated with Inferno Drainer.

Acknowledging Inferno Drainer’s detrimental effects on the cryptocurrency ecosystem, blockchain security company CertiK classified it as “one of the most damaging phishing kits.” CertiK emphasized the presence of other active providers, such as competitors like Pink Drainer and Angel Drainer, notwithstanding Inferno’s departure. On November 25th, the latter released an update that garnered attention because it improved users’ ability to empty wallets on several blockchains.
Following the March closure of Monkey Drainer, which also made the decision to strategically quit, Inferno Drainer has closed, declaring that it was time to move on to something better.
The disappearance of these wallet-draining services raises concerns about the community’s ability to withstand illegal activity and the continued efforts to stop it as the cryptocurrency landscape changes.
