RealDID is a blockchain-based identity verification system that the Chinese Ministry of Public Security plans to launch. It will make personal information and identity documents safer.
The news was shared at an event on December 12 put on by the Chinese blockchain company Blockchain Service Network (BSN). RealDID was created with help from the Chinese government and is meant to be used for many things, such as confirming a person’s real name, keeping personal data safe and certifying it, private logins, business identities, personal identification certificate services, and information vouchers for personal identity.

Through Decentralized Identifiers (DID), the platform lets Chinese citizens sign up and access online portals without being tracked. This protects the privacy of transactions and data between people and companies.
The official launch date and national implementation across China’s huge population of 1.4 billion people were not given, but the announcement did talk about the platform’s “huge potential” to protect people’s privacy.
China’s National Information Center runs BSN and keeps in touch with well-known Chinese tech companies like China Mobile and China UnionPay. This comes after six Chinese social media sites, including WeChat, told content creators with 500,000 to 1 million users in late October that they had to show their real names and sources of income.
China keeps speeding up its efforts and rules in new technologies, mainly in the areas of artificial intelligence, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and cryptocurrencies. The country is also trying hard to become less dependent on semiconductor chips made in the U.S. by encouraging domestic production.
