The Swiss city of Lugano has publicly accepted Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT) as payment for city services, taxes, and different community fees. This is a big step toward integrating cryptocurrencies into everyday life.
This move is meant to encourage more people in Lugano to use cryptocurrencies. It will let people and companies pay their bills with Bitcoin or Tether, no matter what the bill is for or how much it is.
Lugano’s plan fits with Plan B, which is a joint attempt with Tether to change the city’s financial system using Bitcoin technology. As the technology partner in this integrated payment solution, Bitcoin Suisse is very important. They help Lugano reach its goal of accepting crypto payments for tax bills and other city bills.

The city has teamed up with Bitcoin Suisse, a Swiss cryptocurrency tool for businesses, to make this payment process easier. The Swiss QR-bill method makes it easy for people in Lugano to pay their taxes or for services by using Bitcoin or USDT. To do this, you need to scan the QR code on the bill and pay with your chosen mobile wallet.

This is not the first time Lugano has done something to help crypto. As early as March 2022, the city started taking cryptocurrencies as payment for taxes thanks to a deal with Tether. Also, Lugano has taken the initiative to use blockchain-based tools, like the MyLugano app, the LVGA Points payment token, the Lugano digital franc, and the 3Achain blockchain infrastructure.
Switzerland was one of the first countries to use crypto in city governments. People and businesses in the canton of Zug could pay their taxes with Bitcoin and Ether in 2021. In the same way, Zermatt, a town in the canton of Valais, teamed up with Bitcoin Suisse in January 2020 to make Bitcoin a way to pay taxes.
Lugano’s recent move is part of a growing trend in Swiss towns to use cryptocurrencies for everyday transactions and try out blockchain technology.
