CEO and co-founder Michael Wagner wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that I write today to give news about team restructuring initiatives we are effectuating today.
In order to assure its future growth and development, Automata (ATMTA), the creative Solana game developer behind Star Atlas, has announced a strategic restructure. The team now has 45 employees, down from 235 last year, but despite the huge staffing drop, this move intends to refocus resources on important projects and provide top-notch gaming experiences.
Michael Wagner, the CEO and co-founder of ATMTA, indicated that the group will give SAGE and the recently unveiled Crew Mobile App top priority. Additionally, the creation of the software development kit (SDK) that unites Solana and Unreal Engine 5, the two engines that make up the core of the Star Atlas game, will proceed more slowly.
Regarding the difficulties encountered, Wagner emphasized that the project’s financial success was hampered by the team’s decision to hold the in-game token Atlas despite its recent value decrease. They also had to deal with substantial tax problems and recover from sizable financial losses brought on by outside circumstances, such FTX’s collapse.

The Solana blockchain has been thriving in spite of these difficulties, experiencing all-time high usage in the first half of 2023 and maintaining 100% uptime in Q2. The establishment of funds by the Solana Foundation to assist the ecosystem has also been crucial in fostering creative initiatives like Star Atlas.
Although the restructure poses difficulties, Automata is still committed to navigating this new chapter and providing its devoted community with top-notch gaming experiences. The intriguing Star Atlas universe has a bright future with a new focus and Solana’s ongoing support.
