Sam Bankman-Fried, the former chief of FTX, has been captured in a photo while in prison, marking the first glimpse of the ex-billionaire since his imprisonment for wire fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering.
The image, taken on December 17, has surfaced as Bankman-Fried awaits sentencing on March 28 in the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center.
Journalist Tiffany Fong obtained the exclusive photo, revealing a sheepish Bankman-Fried standing in line with fellow inmates. Described as looking “scruffier than a m*********er,” he appears with a messy hairstyle, unkempt beard, and dressed in beige-toned clothing.

G Lock, a former Bloods gang member seen alongside Bankman-Fried in the photo, commented on the ex-billionaire’s appearance, stating that he is now “skinny like a toothpick” and not adhering to prison cliches related to hygiene. Despite criticisms, G Lock claimed that Bankman-Fried is not snitching on anyone and emphasized his alleged gangster demeanor.
During their time together, G Lock and other inmates reportedly watched a 60-minute interview with Bankman-Fried conducted by Micheal Lewis. The inmates reportedly mocked Sam Bankman-Fried for dating his former girlfriend and former Alameda CEO, Caroline Ellison.
In an upcoming interview with Tiffany Fong’s YouTube channel, G Lock shared insights into Bankman-Fried’s prison life, suggesting that the disgraced ex-billionaire is perceived as “more gangster than Tekashi 69.” G Lock also mentioned that Bankman-Fried’s current state is unrelated to prison stereotypes about hygiene.
While Fong clarified that her intent in sharing the photo is not to provoke Sam Bankman-Fried or make fun of him, she emphasized the existence of the image and her access to it. The full interview with G Lock is expected to be released on Tiffany Fong’s YouTube channel later this week.
