OpenAI has introduced a new feature for its AI system, ChatGPT, that allows users to create their own generative pre-trained transformers (GPTs), simplifying complex prompts and enabling users to build custom ChatGPT apps for various tasks. This feature aims to enhance the user experience, especially for power users who previously had to manually input text fields each time they used ChatGPT. By creating GPTs, users can streamline these processes.
The new GPT feature is available to subscribers of the “ChatGPT Plus” and Enterprise subscription tiers, with no free version available.
Power users often crafted and saved prompts and instruction sets, which they had to copy into ChatGPT repeatedly. With GPTs, OpenAI automates this task, offering a more efficient solution.
OpenAI also announced the upcoming launch of a GPT store, which will operate similarly to a mobile app store. Developers will be able to create GPTs and offer them for sale. The store will only allow “verified builders” to post GPTs, with privacy and safety measures in place to protect users.
GPTs are a new way for anyone to create a tailored version of ChatGPT to be more helpful in their daily life, at specific tasks, at work, or at home — and then share that creation with others. No code required. https://t.co/SPV4TcMiQwpic.twitter.com/PcmorZwtMF

Users can share their GPTs publicly, and enterprises can create “internal-only” GPTs for specific departments or authorized employees. Several companies, including Amgen, Bain, and Square, have already started using GPTs for tasks such as creating marketing materials, assisting customer support, and onboarding new engineers.
ChatGPT is a popular AI chat program with over 180 million users. It faces competition from other AI chat programs like Google’s Bard and Anthropic’s Claude 2. Recently, Elon Musk announced his own AI chat program, “Grok,” entering the increasingly competitive AI chat space.
